Dear Members and Friends of LDA of Maine,
The Learning Disabilities Association of Maine is at a crossroads. After several years of challenges including cuts in funding, a change to an all-volunteer organization and a small board, we are now faced with the decision of whether to close our doors.
We know that over 37% percent of kids and adults with special needs have a learning disability. If LDA of Maine closes, this leaves a huge hole in resources and support for people with learning disabilities.
LDA of Maine is currently a volunteer-run organization with three board members. If LDA of Maine is to stay open, we need your help. We need committed individuals who desire to make a difference in the lives of children and adults with learning disabilities. We need individuals to serve on the board of the Learning Disabilities Association of Maine.
Our Board currently consists of three dedicated, long-term members who need to take a break. We have two choices: close our doors or find new board members who are willing to take the lead in deciding what is next for our organization.
Board members can be professionals, parents of students with learning disabilities, or adults with learning disabilities, but must be a member, or willing to join, the Learning Disabilities Association of America. (Dues of $35.00 per year include membership in LDA of Maine.)
Interested persons should be willing to accept leadership roles with mentoring from current board members and be able to participate in several meetings per year in person or via conference call. If you would enjoy helping us reach out to those concerned with learning disabilities in Maine, please call or email email@example.com or call 1-877-208-4029 before September 30, 2014.
Please respond as soon as possible!
Thank you for your interest and your support of those with learning disabilities.
