Help get BPA out of our food!

Hi Supporter,

Want BPA-free food? We have good news…. The public hearing for BPA-free baby and toddler food is next week - Thursday Sept 6th!

Can't join us? Submit a personal public comment for BPA-free food in just 5 minutes from comfort of your own home.

Next week the Board of Environmental Protection will hold a public hearing to consider a rule to phase out BPA from baby and toddler foods.

This is our opportunity to present the facts to the 7 board members who will be voting on this rule. We need to show them that Maine parents, scientists, doctors, and people from all over the state support the rule for BPA-free food!

We know that BPA is toxic, that BPA in food cans and other packaging leaches into our food, and we know there are safer alternatives to using BPA in food packaging (in the photo, the baby food jar lids on the right have BPA and the plastic containers to the left are BPA-free). We also know that the chemical industry will send in plenty of lobbyists attempting to persuade the Board to delay action on BPA. That's why we need your help to show overwhelming support for BPA-free food right now!

Join us at the public hearing for BPA-free children's food!

Background: It's time to tackle a major source of kids' exposure to BPA...

Last year Maine lawmakers overwhelmingly approved a rule to phase out BPA from baby bottles, sippy cups, and reusable containers. But most baby and toddler foods contain BPA right in the linings of cans and jars where it leaches into the food at levels linked to cancer, learning disabilities, early puberty in girls, and obesity. For more information on BPA and the exciting work we are doing to protect you from BPA, check out our campaign for BPA-free food webpage.

We need your help. Everyone can submit a public comment to the Board of Environmental Protection. If you are available, please ALSO join us by at the public hearing next Thursday, September 6th anytime between 9am and 4pm.

Thanks for helping us protect Maine kids from BPA!
